Door 101: What is the Common Denominator of Ongoing Door Issues in Healthcare Today?

Presented and sponsored by Facilitator Technologies.

As we know there is no overall “door department” as a result doors are ordered and managed via multiple departments utilizing multiple vendors.

Additionally, architects & specifiers are similarly fragmented and not familiar with all aspects of functional, stakeholder needs or cross-reference code compliance requirements.

The result= the perpetuating of a Band-Aid approach and the philosophy that poor operation cannot be changed.

An example of this is: A prominent NYC Public hospital installed a revolving door approximately 5 years ago. Every day multiple times per hour the door stops mid rotation and in “turn” frustrated pedestrians.  The hospital merely attributed this to high volume usage.  What they did not know is that both signage & audio/visual annunciation was missing/never installed.  Had this been done, pedestrians would be clearly informed where they could stand and when they needed to move.  This equated to ongoing physical and mechanical damage and increased user frustration… Their various service companies were onsite often multiple times per week. In fact, when the service company was finally requested to install audio/visual they said, “your unit doesn’t come with it”.

Speaker:

Since 1983, Mr. Schmutter, as company founder & CEO, has engaged in multiple sectors such as overall doorway integration, anti-ligature unique solutions, ballistic barriers, and specializing in door shelter management devices with multiple granted patents.  As these experiences transformed the nature of the company’s daily function, Windowman has evolved and is now known as Facilitator Technologies™.

Resolving ongoing conflicts of stand-alone systems including fire alarm, card access, intercom, powered operation, infant abduction or other event-based alarms, Mr. Schmutter & Facilitator Technologies™ have transcended ongoing noncompliance, component failure & service intervals of days to weeks to a new realized approach of reliable/compliant systems fully functional for years to decades.

Mr. Schmutter’s work has been acknowledged by the FDNY, NYPD, DC Fire, and other AHJs. The FDNY has developed a First Responder training course around his work, and over 2,000 people trained to date.

Facilitator Technologies™ includes all stakeholders and incorporates Lessons Learned. It provides code-compliant solutions that meet daily high-volume user needs and ensures a reduced Total Cost of Ownership.

Coupled with the trust of client leadership and positive input from local authorities having jurisdiction, Facilitator Technologies™ innovations allow staff to feel cared for, protected, and comfortable doing their ongoing lifesaving work!

Together, Mr. Schmutter and Facilitator Technologies™, Forging a Path Forwardbalancing Safety, Security, Occupant & Responder Protection™
