Presentation Topic:
Sustainable Process for Managing Life Safety Barriers Learning Objectives
Provider Name: Mark Izsa STI Firestop Regional Manager Healthcare-Northeast
Learning Objectives:
1. Summarize what a solid standard will provide to the facility. The standard would be used from design to operations. This makes expectations clear for all that have line of sight to fire, smoke, and acoustical barriers.
2. Define why passive fire protection is such a critical component to life safety and code compliance. We will dive into the differences between the multiple constructions processes used for the building of rated barriers.
3. Preconstruction risk assessments (PCRA) are component to a solid life safety compliance process for the fire and smoke barriers in a facility. This presentation will discuss a roadmap to achieve compliance. The PCRA should start with the design and engineering phase and should include risk management, owners’ rep, project superintendents, and actual installer or constructor. By communication internally about potential issues that could arise and affect patient safety. We will discuss typical firestop applications that should be addressed ahead of the project such as sustainable cable penetrations, dynamic head of wall joints, water intrusion areas and architectural specification and design.
